Hartford-based specialty insurer Hartford Steam Boiler is sponsoring an Internet of Things (IoT) lab at the University of Hartford's new advanced engineering and health sciences building.

The lab will be located in the new 60,0000-square-foot Hursey Center for Advanced Technology at UHart, and is scheduled to open by the end of August, according to UHart. The IoT lab will be equipped with smart technology and capabilities with support from HSB’s IoT specialists, enabling UHart to give students hands-on training with sensors and other IoT technology, according to HSB.

"We are grateful for the support of HSB in preparing our students for jobs in this thriving industry," UHart President Gregory Woodward said.

The sponsorship also provides HSB Applied Technology Solutions opportunities to test new sensor technologies and improve HSB’s proprietary algorithms, HSB president and CEO Greg Barats said.

Partnering with UHart on the IoT lab also gives HSB an opening to shape the development of the UHart's IoT program and curriculum and encourage students to pursue careers in technology-related industries in Greater Hartford, Barats said.

“We’re excited to help University of Hartford students explore IoT technologies that will prepare them for the jobs and challenges of the future," Barats said.
