Hartford’s 102.9 radio parent acquired

A Texas company chaired by the eldest son of former presidential candidate Ross Perot said it has acquired the Westport parent of recently rebranded Hartford classic rock station 102.9 The Whale.

Petrus Holding Co., owned by the Perot Co., said it “joined with management” to acquire Connoisseur Media, which operates 42 radio stations. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Chairman Ross Perot Jr. said in a statement that Petrus’ investment “will allow Connoisseur to continue investing in its people while ensuring it can remain prudently-financed, locally-focused and innovative.”

Petrus describes itself as “a flexible, patient investor with a sole focus on long-term value creation.”

Besides The Whale, Connoisseur owns four stations in Milford, including 99.1 PLR. Its other holdings are concentrated in New York and New Jersey.

Last year, Connoisseur acquired The Whale — then called WDRC FM — from Buckley Broadcasting. The deal also included Buckley’s four “The Talk of Connecticut” stations.
