Express Kitchens, a kitchen cabinet and countertop retail business based in Hartford, has acquired New Jersey-based Direct Cabinet Sales, expanding its footprint into two new states.
As a result of the acquisition, the company will have five additional retail outlets in New York and New Jersey, according to the announcement.
Express Kitchens, which manufactures and distributes kitchen cabinets in Connecticut and Massachusetts, now has 17 retail outlets and showrooms in four states, with distribution facilities and manufacturing plants in Hartford; Dayton, New Jersey; and Ahmedabad, India.
In 2021, Express Kitchens completed the much-anticipated purchase of the 183,000-square-foot former Veeder-Root property in Hartford’s Asylum Hill neighborhood for $2.4 million. Express Kitchens previously leased space in the building for warehousing.
The company’s corporate headquarters is at 231 Weston St. in Hartford. In 2019, Express Kitchens moved its Newington showroom into a larger property it acquired earlier that year.
Direct Cabinet Sales was previously owned by a private equity firm. The acquisition includes two additional companies: Golden Reiss Kitchens of Brooklyn, New York, and Seifer Kitchens of New Jersey.
Max Kothari, founder and CEO of Express Kitchens, said the deal “expands our coverage in an important high-volume metropolitan market."
“This expansion will allow Express Kitchens to expand its platform for optimal growth and allow customers to experience better product, faster lead times at lower prices,” Kothari said.
Kothari said the acquisition will roughly double the number of people employed by Express Kitchens. Direct Cabinet Sales has about 100 employees and Express Kitchens has about 120.
