A company that provides coworking spaces announced Thursday that it will open five new Connecticut locations over the next 12 months, including one in the historic Butterworth Hall in the West End of Hartford.
International Workplace Group (IWG) plans to open new coworking spaces in Stamford, Bloomfield, Shelton, Hartford and Old Saybrook, under its brands Regus and HQ, as hybrid working becomes a reality for more workers.
The Hartford location is at 1265 Asylum Ave., a nearly 24,000-square-foot Georgian Revival-style brick building constructed in 1918 that previously housed the Hartford College for Women.
The building is part of the Prospect Avenue Historic District.
The University of Hartford owned the property until it was sold to Great Neck, New York-based Hartford Gardens LLC in 2022.
IWG plans to open the coworking space at 1265 Asylum Ave. in the third quarter of 2025 under the company’s HQ brand.
HQ-branded coworking spaces are meant for “cost-conscious clients, whether they are a major corporation or a freelancer,” according to IWG’s website.
The Regus brand has more than 3,000 locations in 120 markets and has “the broadest network and the greatest expertise in flexspace,” the website says.
The Stamford location will be at 20 Summer St., an office building near the Stamford Transportation Center. It will open under the HQ brand in the first quarter of 2025.
In Bloomfield, IWG will open another HQ coworking space at 204 West Newberry Road in the second quarter of 2025. It will be located in Griffin Center, which is also home to INDUS Realty Trust Inc.
IWG’s Shelton location will open at 1 Waterview Drive in Shelton, under the Regus brand, in the fourth quarter of 2024. The property contains a large office building on 14.8 acres, with a glass atrium lobby and cafe.
In Old Saybrook, it plans to open another Regus location at 123 Elm St., in an office building near Interstate 95.
IWG will have 28 flexible workspace locations in Connecticut along with more than 1,500 across the U.S. It also has 4,000 locations globally.
