Hartford design firm JCJ Architecture says it will design a $30 million affordable housing complex in New York City dedicated to domestic abuse survivors with disabilities.
JCJ is working with NYC nonprofit Barrier Free Living (BFL) to design the project in time for a fall 2019 groundbreaking with completion slated for Jan. 2021. The 74-unit, 65,000-square-foot facility will be located on the lower east side of Manhattan at 270 East 2nd St.
It will be equipped with administrative offices, an elevated outdoor recreation area, and community and support spaces. JCJ officials said the building’s unique design “will challenge assumptions about the aesthetics associated with supportive housing…”
JCJ will collaborate with New York State Home and Community Renewal and other city entities on the project.
The Hartford firm has been busy in recent months establishing an office in Las Vegas and being tapped as one of four companies selected to design and develop the expansion of an Oklahoma casino.
