HBJ names Community Excellence & Nonprofit Award winners

The Hartford Business Journal has named its inaugural class of Community Excellence & Nonprofit Awards winners.

The winners of the awards, which identify outstanding companies and leaders who have supported nonprofit organizations, along with nonprofits and nonprofit executives who have made a significant impact on the community over the last year, were selected by an independent panel of judges.

The winners will be recognized at an event celebration Nov. 14 at Infinity Hall in Hartford.

The award categories and winners include:

Corporate Citizen of the Year

Awarded to a for-profit organization in recognition of its impact to a single nonprofit organization or multiple organizations, through financial contributions and collective efforts to promote, encourage and organize fundraising efforts and company-sponsored programs.

Winner: The Simon Konover Company    



Corporate Volunteer of the Year

Given to a for-profit volunteer demonstrating outstanding dedication to a nonprofit, or multiple organizations.

Winner: Susan Lane, Director of Public Relations & Community Engagement, Hoffman Auto Group

 

Next Generation Leadership

This award is for a for-profit executive under the age of 40 who demonstrates leadership and significant contributions to a nonprofit organization(s), through active leadership, board work, and/or strategic management and guidance.

Winner: Tatiana Paredes, President, Prospanica Connecticut; Supplier Diversity Analyst, Stanley Black and Decker Inc.

 

Partnership Award

Given to a for-profit organization(s) that can best articulate a successful, measurable business outcome from their community service efforts, exemplifying the principle that doing good is also good business.

Winners: The Hartford, Aetna Inc., Travelers Cos., city of Hartford, Hartford Public Library

 

Nonprofit Organization of the Year

This award is given to a nonprofit in recognition for creativity and innovation in building a sustainable organization as well as excellence in teamwork and an outstanding dedication to mission in the community, with emphasis on excellence in management and operations.

Winner: ACE Mentor Program of Connecticut

 

Nonprofit Collaboration of the Year   

Recognizing a collaborative project that engages relationships with multiple nonprofit organizations and multiple shareholders within the community and that helps solve a community problem or issue.

Winners: Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness

 

Nonprofit Executive of the Year

This award is given to a nonprofit leader who demonstrates vision and innovation in advancing the mission of his/her organization.The award will recognize a leader who has made a substantial difference in their organization over the last 12 months.

Winner: Steve Collins, Executive Director, Hartford Symphony Orchestra
