HBJ's print issue goes digital until June 1

To our valued readers,

Because of the extreme health crisis gripping our nation and state, starting with our April 6 issue and lasting at least until June 1, the Hartford Business Journal will inaugurate a 100% digital delivery strategy. That means we won’t be publishing a print issue at least until June 1.

Make no mistake, we love print, and we know that many of you do too. Don’t worry. At some point we will all be returning to our offices. When we do, your print copy of the Hartford Business Journal will be there, like a familiar friend welcoming you back to business.

Since this crisis started, we have all lived with upheaval and adversity. At HBJ, we know our role as your source for reliable regional business news is more important now than ever. In 28 years we have never missed delivering a printed issue of the Hartford Business Journal. With so many working remotely, and all of us concerned about the possibility of even newspapers and groceries making us ill, the best strategy we have is to deliver the Hartford Business Journal in digital format for the time being.

In this uniquely difficult moment, we are committed to giving our readers, and our community more, not less news and information. That’s what we’ve been delivering online with a constantly updated website, and that is what we will continue to deliver in our special digital edition-only issues.

We even have some special issues coming up, including our Women in Business awards section (April 6) and our inaugural Power 50 issue (April 20), which will spotlight the 50 most powerful business, civic, nonprofit and government leaders in our region.

A Digital Edition is an exact facsimile of a print edition, but delivered, and consumed on your phone, ipad or computer.  It will include stories from the same award-winning journalists. It will also have the same format, voice, and features. The experience will be pretty close to what you are used to, just without the paper.

Our digital edition will be accessed in a number of ways. It will be found on the website, but it is a different experience from our website. Our research shows that readers spend about 30 minutes with an edition of HBJ, which is more of an immersive experience. The digital edition will be immersive as well.

Readers generally spend only a couple of minutes at a time on our website, seeking bite sized news nuggets that they need right now.

In the spirit of providing more value, we will be making all our website content easier to access by dropping our paywall. Normally the paywall limits the number of articles that can be accessed by non subscribers. Our daily emails -- CT Morning Blend and HBJ Today -- have always been, and remain free of charge.

You will also be seeing a number of web-based content events, starting with a pair of seminars unpacking the new stimulus legislation, which can be a game changer for many closely held businesses.

We will be sending our digital edition to all print subscribers.  We will also be sharing the digital edition link with a robust list of business and community leaders who have yet to subscribe, which will serve as a powerful introduction to our coverage.

I’d like to thank our subscribers, and our many loyal advertisers and sponsors for their support.

Please enjoy the Hartford Business Journal’s digital edition, and when the dust settles from our current challenges, which it certainly will, we hope you too will subscribe. Until then, let us keep you informed.

Please let me know what you think, I’d love to hear from you.
