Hiring for new college presidents kicks off

The process to officially replace two Connecticut university system college presidents has commenced with the formation of a search committee.

Mary A. Papazian will resign as president of Southern Connecticut State University effective July 1, 2016, and will become the 29th president of San José State University.

John W. Miller will retire as the 12th president of Central Connecticut State University effective Sept. 15, 2016. He began his tenure as president in 2005.

The replacement process includes the establishment of a Board of Regents search committee by chair Nicholas Donofrio, and a University Advisory Committee with members representing various constituency groups. Both committees will work with an executive placement firm currently on contract, AGB Search, to conduct a national search. The Board of Regents will select the candidate based on recommendations from each committee and Mark E. Ojakian, president of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system.

The search for Southern is expected to begin in early March and Central in mid-May.
