Hooters, the bar and grill known more for its scantily-clad wait staff than its menu, abruptly closed its Manchester location Monday.
According to a post on its Facebook page, Hooters of Manchester closed before noon.
“After nearly two decades of hot wings, cold beer, and great memories, Hooters of Manchester has made the difficult decision to close its doors,” the post states. “Thank you for the many years of patronage and loyalty.”
The post adds, “We encourage you to visit your favorite Hooters Girl at Hooters of Wethersfield or Hooters of West Springfield!” The Wethersfield location, at 1731 Berlin Turnpike, is now the sole remaining Hooters in the state.
Comments on the post also noted that all of the signs had been removed from the building, which is located at 1483 Pleasant Valley Road in Manchester and is visible from Interstate 84.
In an emailed statement, a Hooters spokesman said the Manchester location was not the only one to close.
“Like many restaurants under pressure from current market conditions, Hooters has made the difficult decision to close a select number of underperforming stores,” the email states. It does not state how many other locations also shut down.
“Ensuring the well-being of our staff is our priority in these rare instances,” the statement continues.
It adds that Hooters is also opening new locations “domestically and internationally,” as well as launching “new Hooters frozen products” in grocery stores.
“This brand of 41 years remains highly resilient and relevant,” the email states. “We look forward to continuing to serve our guests at home, on the go and at our restaurants here in the U.S. and around the globe.”
The email does not state how many people the restaurant employed, and officials in the town’s economic development office were unable to provide additional information.
