Windsor’s Day Hill Road corridor could get another recreational sports facility with a proposed new pickleball center.
Partners Frank DeMarinis and Jeffrey Morneau, of 20 Day Hill Road LLC, are seeking a zoning exception from the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission to operate a recreational facility at 20 Day Hill Road, which is currently on the town’s restricted commercial zone that allows hotels and office use.
If granted, the special exception permit would allow recreational uses there, and Sage Engineering of Westfield, Mass., would build a two-story, 15,600-square-foot indoor pickleball facility with 13 courts and a small reception area.
Morneau and DeMarnis are also planning to buy the roughly 5 acres of vacant land at 20 Day Hill Road.
Windsor Economic Development Director Patrick McMahon said the Day Hill Road corridor is becoming a budding recreational center, and that a pickleball court “would be another great amenity to add to that area,” due in part to the increased popularity of the sport.
