What are the biggest challenges facing the insurance and insurtech industries, and how could they be addressed?
Those will be some of the topics tackled at a two-day event in downtown Hartford next week held by entrepreneurial promoter InsurTech Hartford. The inaugural event is dubbed as the InsurTech Hartford Symposium.
The first day of the event, on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Hartford Marriott Downtown, will feature panel discussions with a number of the region’s insurance executives and insurtech entrepreneurs discussing the top problems trending in the industry.
Areas of interest will cover making Internet of Things (IoT) systems, application programming interface (API)-based platforms, adopting new technologies and how to become an analytics-driven business, among other topics.
Day one will also include a pair of pitch events in property-casualty insurance, and life and health insurance. Winners will be named at the end of day two on Nov. 6.
Day two will begin with a keynote address from Matthew Josefowicz, CEO of Boston market research firm Novarica Inc., followed by closing remarks from Tim Attia, CEO and co-founder of New York insurtech cloud provider Slice Labs.
Networking opportunities will also be provided both days.
Speakers include Connecticut Insurance Department Commissioner Andrew Mais, and former commissioner Katharine Wade, who is now principal of Dunraven Strategies. Other speakers include Dave Condren, vice president of strategy at Travelers Cos.; Nassau Re Chief Marketing Officer Paul Tyler; and Will Gray, assistant vice president of The Hartford.
InsurTech Hartford, a networking and professional-services provider founded by AXA XL Vice President Stacey Brown, is separate from the Hartford InsurTech Hub program, though both entities are housed in the Stilts Building in downtown and hold programming and events at Upward Hartford’s space there.
