Jackson Lab CEO to receive award Frascarelli named PIACT president

Jackson Laboratory president and CEO Edison Liu will be presented with the international Human Genome Organization's (HUGO) Chen Award for distinguished academic achievement in human genetic and genomic research at HUGO's annual meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, on April 30.

The Chen Award honors the achievements of a biomedical scientist who has made significant contributions to genetics and genomics.

As the 2014 awardee, Liu will receive a $10,000 award and plaque, and will present a lecture at the meeting.

Peter Frascarelli has been elected president of the Professional Insurance Agents of Connecticut Inc. (PIACT).

Frascarelli is the chief operating officer of the Peter M. Bakker Agency Inc. in Avon, and has been a PIACT member since 1990.

He currently serves on several PIACT committees including administrative/nominations and executive/budget and finance. PIACT is a trade association that represents professional, independent insurance agencies and their employees throughout the state.

CT Biz Schools named 'Best for Vets'

The UConn School of Business and Post University's Malcolm Baldrige School of Business have been recognized in the second annual “Best for Vets: Business Schools” report released by Military Times, a news agency serving the military community.

UConn was recognized for is Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities and its recently launched Office of Veterans Affairs and Military Programs.

Meanwhile, The Baldrige School has 2,700 active duty students and 312 students who have prior military experience.

Coldwell Banker Residential awarded

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Connecticut and Westchester County, N.Y., was recently named a platinum award winner by the Cartus Broker Network, which is an employee relocation service provider.

The award is one of three excellence awards Cartus presents to principal brokers and it is based on performance results related to a wide variety of goals including customer service, cost management, and appraisal accuracy. Only 34 percent of the Network's principal brokers received excellence awards in 2013.

Meantime, Coldwell Banker also announced that Bob Knurek, a sales associate affiliated with the company's South Windsor office, ranked as the firm's No. 1 sales associate in Greater Hartford last year.

Knurek will be presented with the Coldwell Banker International President's Premier award April 3 at a celebration at the Mohegan Sun.

Gaylord Concussion Center recognized

Wallingford long-term care hospital Gaylord Specialty Healthcare was recently recognized with the 2014 Education and Prevention Award by the Brain Injury Alliance of Connecticut.

Gaylord's Center for Concussion Care was given the award for its efforts to increase public awareness of brain injury and prevention and broaden community services available to individuals who have sustained a brain injury.
