The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine said it plans to break ground on its new 189,000-square-foot facility in Farmington on Thursday.
The daylong event will take place at the University of Connecticut Health Center and marks rapid progress in establishing the new research center, officials said.
The facility, to be called JAX Genomic Medicine, will be housed in a new 189,000-square-foot building located on a 17-acre parcel of the Health Center campus.
The LEED-certified structure will include laboratory space, scientific support services, a data processing center, conference rooms, an auditorium and shared areas for scientists working in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Connecticut, area hospitals and other research organizations.
The building will be ready for occupancy in the fall of 2014.
