Jim Senatro is truly a mechanical engineer at heart: constantly taking things apart and putting them back together again in an ongoing effort to figure out how everything works.
He approaches work (and life) in a very hands-on, inquisitive manner. Senatro specializes in designing mechanical systems for high-end residences up to 60,000 square feet. At CES, he is a vice president, contributing to the financial success and growth of the company for the last 18 years.
What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?
In 2015, I was promoted to a principal at CES. The process included a presentation to the board of directors. Preparing for that moment and ultimately becoming a principal alongside my mentors and peers was a great accomplishment and pivotal moment in my career.
How are you involved in the community?
My two boys are Cub Scouts and I have served as a Den Leader and the pack’s committee chair. Next year I will be Cubmaster. I also remain actively involved in our local Congregational Church assisting with building facility upgrades and needs.
What do you like to do outside of work?
My wife and I have three kids under the age of 7, a lot of our free time is spent exploring the world with them. I enjoy working outdoors and welcome any excuse to drive my tractor. There is also my classic-car collection that feeds my need to tinker.
How did dealing with the coronavirus pandemic help you grow as a leader?
This was a crisis unlike any other I have ever seen. There was an immense responsibility to the company and the employees, while having to make many tough decisions quickly and with minimal information, relying on gut instinct. It changed my perspective on what is truly important both at home and at the office.
Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty:
I excelled from college intern to vice president within 15 years.
As treasurer, I am ultimately responsible for all of the company’s finances.
I oversee two teams and coordinate workload between four teams of engineers. The work we produce contributes greatly to the corporation’s yearly revenue.
Led my 40-home neighborhood through a conversion from a community well system to public water.
At age 11, I bought a new tractor for my lawn-mowing business.
