As head of economic development and planning in Trumbull (2012-16) and in Hartford (2016-18), Jamie Brätt was instrumental in facilitating commercial real estate developments and driving grand list growth. Despite complex obstructions, Bratt consistently inspired her teams to get to yes.
Recognizing technology as a burgeoning driver of economic growth in her home state, Bratt made a bold career shift to join global technology firm Infosys, just before their Hartford Innovation Hub opened last December.
What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?
My passion and career have centered around growing healthy cities and towns. Typically, the harvest matures slowly and at the hands of many passionate collaborators. Shepherding dozens of catalytic commercial real estate developments to fruition has been my greatest accomplishment, especially the Smilow Cancer Care Hospital Center in Trumbull.
How are you involved in the community?
I recently joined the First Company Governor’s Horse Guards of Connecticut, which serves several missions in the community, and holds the distinct honor of being the oldest continuously mounted cavalry unit in the United States. Previously, I served on four separate regional boards with focus on economic development and innovation.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I look forward to date nights with my husband, sampling New England’s finest ice cream, and spending time outdoors with loved ones, including my two young children. In 2008 I hiked a section of the Rockies and the Smokies as part of Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training fundraiser program.
Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty:
• Shepherded over $100 million worth of commercial construction projects through complex permitting processes during seven years as a Connecticut public servant.
• 2018 Young Economic Developer of the Year (International Economic Development Council).
• Served on the boards of directors of four nonprofits, all working to make Greater Hartford or downtowns throughout Connecticut more vibrant and economically sustainable.
• Put NoMa on the map by leading a successful year-long campaign to rename a Metro station in Washington, D.C.
As an undergraduate at Trinity College, I designed my own major in economics and ethics.
