Town where I work: Hartford

As an avid traveler and international martial arts competitor, I have visited nine countries and 27 states and intend on exploring many more.
What do you do in your current job? As director of community outreach and special events I am responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing and supervising all marketing, advertising and community outreach efforts, maintaining partnerships, and volunteer recruitment and oversight. In addition, I plan, oversee and execute all of Camp Courant's internal and third-party special events.
What are your goals in your current job? Though the specific goals I have at Hartford's Camp Courant are varied, the all-inclusive purpose is to engage and connect with the community. Establishing and building relationships with individuals, corporations and other nonprofits is essential for the sustainability and success of what we do.
What's your biggest passion? What truly motivates me, in both my professional and personal life, is paying it forward for the next generation and raising the expectations of those around me. All too often we become wrapped up in our immediate needs and desires and fail to see the impact we have on others. We, as local leaders and role models, have a responsibility to guide and support those who are in need and continue to set the example.
What are your future professional aspirations? I have always been driven to seek new and challenging career opportunities in multiple industries, and it is that enthusiasm that will continue to guide my professional career. To continue to be perceptive to diverse roles that encompass my interests and skills while making a positive impact in our society is paramount to my professional future.
How are you involved in the community? My position with Hartford's Camp Courant supports me in being closely connected to the community and other organizations supporting youth development. In addition I serve on two other nonprofit boards, Literacy Volunteers of Central CT and Friends of Heublein Tower, and am a member of the HYPE Professional Development committee.
What do you hope Greater Hartford will be like in 10 years? A self-professed lover of local history, I would love to witness Hartford returning to the economic and social success that it was at the turn of the 20th century into the 1930s. During that time it was an epicenter of commerce, innovation and social life cultivating some of the greatest individuals and companies of our nation. I, along with countless other Greater Hartford natives, aspire and endeavor to propel this city forward by learning from its remarkable past.
List four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty: Fourth degree master black belt, instructor and international competitor in Tang Soo Do karate. I am currently serving as board president for Literacy Volunteers of Central CT. During my retail management career, I was a regional instructor for Nordstrom's “Selling is Service” program and a regional market trainer for Williams Sonoma Corp.'s “Design Services” program. British Council Student Ambassador to the U.S. with the objective of assisting incoming UK students in American universities.
