Jewett to step down from Hartford’s McDowell Jewett Communications

Steve Jewett, managing partner of Hartford’s McDowell Jewett Communications, is leaving the public relations firm to focus on his new outfit in Washington, D.C.

Jewett, who served as a senior advisor to then Gov.-elect Ned Lamont, plans to continue working with certain clients in Connecticut, but will step down from the politically focused firm in January to grow his new business, Attorney General Strategies (AGS), Jewett and President Duby McDowell said in a joint statement Thursday.

Duby will remain as president of the newly dubbed McDowell Communications Group, it said.

McDowell Jewett Communications has worked with several high-profile clients since Jewett joined the firm in 2013. That includes Farmington’s Jackson Laboratory, Dominion Energy and other work with the city of Hartford to secure funding for downtown’s Dunkin’ Donuts Ballpark.

The firm last year also represented a coalition that pushed back against a state-administered public health insurance option.

“It’s been a great run,” the statement said. “We have greatly enjoyed working together and expect to be collaborating in the future.”

Headquartered on Trumbull Street across from Bushnell Park, the firm also runs The Laurel blog covering Connecticut’s news media.
