John Rossi serves as the vice president of operational integration for Hartford HealthCare (HHC). He is primarily focused on improving quality and reducing costs to help HHC provide reliable and efficient health care. Hired in 2014 to launch a system-wide project management office, he now serves as the leader for the annual operational budget improvement process.
In addition, he helps coordinate and support new and existing partnerships, including: food, environmental service, imaging, patient transport, languages services, fleet management and clinical care redesign.
What's the biggest accomplishment your organization has achieved with your leadership?
Health care is evolving quickly. For a system like HHC, it's essential to operate as efficiently as possible to ensure that our financial foundation remains strong so we'll always be there for the communities that depend on us. In my role, I supervise and support our unique, methodical approach to operational efficiency. In our nearly $3-billion system, the simple goal of predictable budget performance takes a lot of complex planning and effort. For me, it's rewarding and challenging to be part of a team dedicated to real stewardship of our resources and committed to creating more affordable health care.
How are you involved in the community?
Like others in my generation I decided to enlist after 9/11, serving in the CT Army National Guard as an officer until 2014. Working with Rep. Larson I engaged in many local initiatives like the Historic National Park at Coltsville and redevelopment of public housing.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I very much enjoy coaching my children and kids of West Hartford in hockey, soccer and baseball, running around local reservoirs and state parks, playing golf with my wife, Christina, and keeping up with local and national issues through my friends in politics.
What must the Greater Hartford region do to attract more talented young professionals?
Utilize talented young people and their success stories in the marketing of the region through social media. All New England colleges and Connecticut major employers should be engaged.
Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty:
• Built a system-wide project management office with a methodology, supporting tools and templates staffed by a team of 10 supporting the top 50 projects at HHC.
• Leading operational integration for Connecticut's largest private employer and most comprehensive healthcare network.
• District chief of staff for U.S. Congressman John Larson at age 29.
• Served my community and country through the Army National Guard and as a federal employee supporting CT's First Congressional District.
