Stafford Spring’s Johnson Memorial Hospital announced it has signed a joint letter of intent with Farmington-based Athena Health Care Systems to expand its senior care services and assisted living and senior housing.
The two health systems are working to finalize terms and conditions of a land lease agreement, establish a timeline for formally identifying acreage for each of the planned facilities and proceed with the regulatory approval process, Johnson Memorial said.
Athena Health Care Systems currently operates Evergreen Health Care Center located on the Johnson Memorial campus.
In addition to the agreement with Athena, Johnson Memorial said it is focusing investments on caring for the region’s growing senior population, including the newly constructed $6.3 million Geriatric
Wellness Pavilion with five in-patient beds.
“Access to facilities such as long-term care, assisted living and senior housing options is in great need in the town of Stafford and surrounding communities,” said Stu Rosenberg, president of Johnson Memorial Hospital.
Johnson Memorial Hospital is owned by Trinity Health of New England. Earlier this month, Johnson Memorial Hospital announced it was seeking to permanently close its labor and delivery unit, joining several other Connecticut rural hospitals in cutting back on maternity and other services.
