Joshua McKim is the managing partner and co-founder of Alliance Management, a Connecticut-based hospitality firm that owns and operates golf courses and event venues. After two decades working every job in the golf industry, McKim set out to found his own company in 2018. He quickly grew Alliance from managing a single asset to overseeing four unique properties, 200 employees, and more than $12 million in assets across its portfolio in only 20 months.

What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?

Despite uncertainty in the financial markets due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked hard leading a bid to acquire a new property together with my partners in The Tomasso Group. We successfully negotiated and closed the deal in May and are now the proud owners of Heritage Village Country Club.

How are you involved in the community?

My clients and I share a dedication to making our venues integral parts of their communities. Across the portfolio, we helped host more than 100 nonprofit events that helped raise more than $1 million for local and national organizations in 2019.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am most proud to be a father to my 8-month-old daughter Scarlett Gray and husband to my wife Kate. While they are my main priorities, I enjoy early mornings at the gym and winter trips snowboarding in the mountains when I can spare a day or two.

How did dealing with the coronavirus pandemic help you grow as a leader?

The pandemic has had a tremendous effect on how I prioritize my efforts: more than ever, it has demonstrated the importance of listening to the needs of employees and guests, coordinating with government agencies, and responding flexibly to a rapidly changing environment.

Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty:

Founded a company that in less than 2 years now oversees $12 million in assets.

Company is on pace to host more than 100,000 rounds of golf in 2020.

Named the 2019 Top Professional in Hospitality Management by the IAOTP.

Serves on the board of directors for the New Britain/Meriden/Berlin YMCA.

Fun Fact

My daughter Scarlett Gray is named after the Ohio State Buckeyes!
