An iconic fashion brand is opening a space in Farmington’s Westfarms Mall.
Kate Spade New York, a global retailer known for graphic color and prints, announced Thursday it will open a new store at Westfarms this Friday.
The store will sell an assortment of handbags, small leather goods, accessories, jewelry, watches, footwear, eyewear and fragrances, among other offerings.
“As an American brand with a global sensibility, Kate Spade New York is looking forward to introducing the full breadth of the brand’s lifestyle offerings to new and existing customers,” Anna Bakst, the retailer’s CEO and brand president, said.
The retailer debuted in 1993 under founder Kate Spade, who died Tuesday of an apparent suicide.
Kate Spade and her husband, Andy, sold 56 percent of the business to Neiman Marcus for $33.6 million in 1999. Kate Spade officially left the company in 2007 when it was acquired by Liz Claiborne in 2007.
Last year, Coach purchased the brand in a $2.4 billion deal.
