Osmol Therapeutics, a New Haven-based biopharmaceutical company, recently named Teresa Bitetti to its board of directors.
Bitetti is president of the global oncology business unit at Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd.
Osmol is focused on developing a treatment to prevent chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.
The condition is a “painful and often debilitating” one, according to Bitetti. With no FDA-approved condition to treat the condition, Bitetti said there is a tremendous need for a therapy to prevent it and improve patients’ quality of life.
Osmol’s lead drug candidate is OSM-0205. The company expects to initiate a Phase 1 bioavailability trial for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in the first half of 2023.
“I look forward to working with the team at Osmol with the goal of bringing OSM-0205 to cancer patients,” Bitetti said, in an announcement.
Bob Linke, president and chief executive officer at Osmol, said Bitetti has more than two decades of experience developing and commercializing oncology products.
“Ms. Bitetti’s experience will be enormously helpful to Osmol as we advance our lead product, OSM-0205, in the clinic and ultimately prepare for a commercial launch,” Linke said.
Prior to joining Takeda, Bitetti worked for 18 years at Bristol-Myers Squibb.
