KeyBank is preparing to close a second branch in Manchester.
In a letter recently sent to area customers, company officials confirmed that the KeyBank office at 285 E. Center St. will shut down and transfer its accounts to the nearby branch at 923 Main St. by Jan. 15, 2021.
The Cleveland, Ohio-based lender attributed the consolidation to changing banking habits.
“As customer preference for online, digital and mobile banking increases, we are making greater investments in technology to enhance these services,” the letter states. “At the same time, we are optimizing our branch network when it makes economic sense.”
KeyBank previously announced plans to close its branch at 220 N. Main St. and transfer its accounts to the office at 344 W. Middle Turnpike. According to the letter, that merger will be completed today.
In both cases, accounts will be transferred automatically between the locations.
KeyBank said its decision to halve its brick-and-mortar footprint in town should not be interpreted as a lack of commitment to the community and pledged to continue to support local events like the Manchester Road Race and institutions such as the Manchester Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Manchester Special Services District.
“We’ve been a member of the Manchester community for many years and we’re here to stay,” officials said.
In north-central Connecticut, KeyBank also has locations in Coventry, East Hartford, East Windsor, Ellington, Enfield, Glastonbury, Hartford, Hebron, South Windsor, Stafford, Tolland and Vernon.
