Kim Bishop is executive director of talent attraction and retention at the MetroHartford Alliance, the region’s business and economic-development organization. In this role she manages the conceptualization, building and implementation of the Alliance’s developing talent-attraction strategy. Bishop also oversees HYPE (Hartford Young Professionals & Entrepreneurs), a young professionals networking group in its 13th year with over 4,000 members.
What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?
Managing daily operation of HYPE while maintaining consistency throughout the MetroHartford Alliance’s evolution has been a rewarding challenge. Additionally, I’m leading the development and execution of a talent-attraction strategy that will support employers throughout the region, an exciting challenge that I believe will be one of the organization’s most impactful accomplishments.
How are you involved in the community?
I work with the community daily, helping local organizations connect with young professionals, planning volunteer opportunities, and utilizing platforms to share information about volunteer needs. I currently serve ongoing roles with New England Knowledge Corridor’s Steering Committee, the Goodwin College MSL advisory board and the Junior Achievement Breakfast Host Committee.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my husband, hiking and running with my three dogs, or curling up with a good book with my cat. I love live music of any kind, and spending time with my family and friends.
Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty:
• Development and implementation of HYPE UP, a program to better engage with local universities and colleges to reach future young professionals before graduation.
• Featured panelist on the “Next Gen Workforce” panel at the 2017 Insurance Market Summit.
• Engage HYPE membership in over 800 volunteer opportunities annually and the collection of 7,700 items donated to local charities in four years.
• Featured speaker on networking and talent at local businesses, higher-education institutions and local high schools.
My favorite animal is an elephant — I have one tattooed on my arm!
