The Knights of Columbus, which has its international headquarters in New Haven, said members of its fraternal organization donated a record $170.1 million and 70.5 million man hours to charities in 2013.

It was the 14th consecutive year of increases, the Knights said. The dollar amount was up by more than $2.3 million while man hours increased by 421,000.

Some of the charitable efforts involved natural disasters in the Phillipines, tornadoes in Oklahoma, floods in Western Canada, the Boston Marathon bombing and the Superstorm Sandy recovery.
