A developer is proposing to build two, 36-unit apartment buildings with a 6,000-square-foot clubhouse as part of an upgrade to the aging Stepny Place Apartments at 1800 Silas Deane Highway in Rocky Hill.
The property owner, Konover Residential, has submitted pre-application documents to the Planning and Zoning Commission, which are being reviewed.
The proposal includes site improvements and 176 additional parking spaces.
Konover, which owns the existing Stepny Place Apartments, plans to add 72 new units and a clubhouse to replace an empty office building on the property, which would be demolished, according to the proposal.
The units would span two newly-constructed, three-story buildings on an undeveloped part of the site, behind the commercial structure.
The 6,000-square-foot clubhouse would include a fitness center, work-from-home spaces, a community room and a cafe, according to the proposal.
The clubhouse and community space will be located between the existing and the proposed apartments.
There would also be landscaping and “contemplation areas,” specialty gardens, fire pits and outdoor grills.
The clubhouse and amenities would be available to residents of the adjacent Greenfield Village, an older complex also owned by Konover, the developer said.
