Korea-based Hanwha Aerospace is expanding its presence in Connecticut with the addition of a new division headquarters in Cheshire, the company announced.

Hanwha Aerospace, an aircraft engine and advanced machinery manufacturer based in Seoul, plans to establish the headquarters of its international engines business in Cheshire. The international engine business is a global division of Hanwha Aerospace with sites in South Korea, Vietnam and the United States, the company said. The division has more than 1,600 global employees, including more than 600 based in Connecticut.

In addition to its already existing operations in Cheshire, Hanwha has manufacturing facilities in East Windsor, Glastonbury and Newington.

The new Cheshire headquarters will serve as a hub for global operations, the company said.

To help bolster its workforce in the state, Hanwha said it has 11 people currently working through the state apprenticeship program. The company has already had 22 graduates go through that program, and the manufacturer has also been hiring employees through partnerships with Central Connecticut State University, the state’s community colleges and technical institutions.
