New Haven has another pizzeria, a national chain that is the latest tenant in the East Rock Market retail center. California-based Ozzy’s Apizza is now open at 285 Nicoll St., and will be a competitor in tonight’s pizza festival.
Ozzy’s was launched in 2021 by Connecticut native Chris Wallace, who said he wanted to bring Elm City-style pizza to the West Coast. Craig Taylor joined as co-owner in 2022, and the pizzeria has since won awards for best pizza in the Los Angeles area for the past two years.
Wallace and Taylor will compete in New Haven’s annual Apizza Feast tonight from 4-10 p.m. on the Green, 1000 Chapel St., with more than 50 pizza vendors.
Also tonight in the city is the New Haven Grand Prix Twilight bicycle race, kicking off at 4 p.m.
The East Rock Market is New Haven’s first food hall in the East Rock Center, which was opened in 2021 by Rishi Narang. It features four eateries and a full-service bar, including Meat & Company, Rockfish Maki Bar, and Ground Up Coffee. Reopening later this month is Rick’s Bar.
East Rock Center is also home to East Rock Brewing Co., Activity, Outfront Media, and Whiting-Turner Construction, and other businesses.
