Hartford Land Bank CEO Arunan Arulampalam on Thursday officially declared his candidacy for mayor of the city of Hartford in front of about 250 people at Parkville Market.
“We are all standing here united in our belief in a brighter day in the City of Hartford,” Arulampalam said. “And that day is coming, but it’s going to take each of us working together, fighting together, united as one Hartford.”
Arulampalam is running for a seat being vacated by current Mayor Luke Bornin, who announced late last year his intention not to run for a third term.
There are now three candidates who have declared a run for mayor. In addition to Arulampalam, former state Sen. Eric Coleman, who is also a retired Superior Court judge, threw his hat in the race in late November.
Last month, Hartford City Council member Nick Lebron also announced his candidacy.
Arulampalam previously served as deputy commissioner for the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection under Gov. Ned Lamont, and as an attorney at Hartford law firm Updike, Kelly & Spellacy. He previously ran for state treasurer in 2018.
Arulampalam lives in Hartford with his wife and four children and serves on several nonprofit boards.
