A number of new pickleball facilities have recently debuted in Greater Hartford as the sport continues to gain in popularity.
One of the latest to open is Dill Dinkers in Simsbury.
The Pickleball Brothers, a local affiliate of Maryland-based Dill Dinkers Pickleball, has a 10-year lease for the site at 500 Bushy Hill Road.
The facility, with one standard-size and six champion-size courts, opened in September in a 23,900-square-foot former HomeGoods store space in the Simsbury Commons plaza. It already has about 240 members and recorded nearly 1,300 registered visitors, the company said.
This is the first of 10 locations Dill Dinkers said it plans to open throughout Connecticut.
While no other locations have been announced, the company said it’s targeting additional sites in Hartford, Middlesex and New Haven counties.
As part of the recent opening, Dill Dinkers will be hosting grand opening events starting next Tuesday, Nov. 26, through Dec. 1, the company said.
That has spurred a wave of new pickleball facilities across the state, including ones planned in Newington and Windsor. Their business models are similar to gyms and other health clubs — they largely rely on memberships as a key revenue source.
