Law firm opens 'non-traditional' office in District New Haven

The law firm Murtha Cullina LLP has opened a non-traditional office model called the Law Lab at District New Haven. The new facility is located at 470 James Street.

The Murtha Cullina Law Lab is designed to be an engaging, interactive and open environment with collaborative workspaces and presentation areas. The Law Lab will be open to members of District New Haven, the Drive coworking space and others, both as a place to meet with attorneys and as an additional collaborative workspace.

District New Haven is a nine-acre, technology and innovation campus for early-stage and growth companies. It includes office spaces, coworking space, a fitness center, media studio and, soon, a new restaurant with a beer garden and amphitheater.

The Murtha Cullina Law Lab will be staffed weekdays and will host regular programming, including monthly educational seminars, for District entrepreneurs and for the community at large.

“We accepted Murtha Cullina’s proposal because it was progressive and innovative and showed that they truly wanted to nurture young entrepreneurs and companies,” said David Salinas, co-founder of District New Haven. “The addition of the Law Lab adds an unmatched value to our ecosystem and campus.”

“District New Haven is a dynamic and innovative use of space in a great location,” said Murtha Cullina’s David A. Menard, who co-chairs the firm’s Emerging Companies Practice Group. “In a short time, it’s already attracting diverse and talented entrepreneurs, all who share the common goal of improving the economy and the startup ecosystem in Connecticut.”

“The Law Lab gives us a better chance to counsel and educate startups on patent and other IP issues early in their existence, which is often the time when steps should be taken to ensure the preservation of IP rights and to lay the groundwork for a successful IP strategy,” said Anthony P. Gangemi, who chairs Murtha Cullina’s Intellectual Property Practice Group and is managing partner of the firm’s New Haven office.
