A third-generation member of the Lee family will soon be taking the helm at Westbrook-based manufacturer The Lee Company.
Marietta S. Lee, the granddaughter of the company’s founder, Leighton Lee, will take over as president and CEO of the 75-year-old company as of July 10.
She will be the third-generation to lead the business, and she will replace her uncle, William (Bill) W. Lee, who is the founder’s son.
Bill Lee is retiring but will remain as chairman of the company’s Board of Directors.
“I’m honored and excited to be taking on this new role,” Marietta Lee said in an announcement. “I plan to continue our long tradition of steady, stable growth, expanding and improving our products, and serving markets all over the world.”
Marietta will be the company’s first female president and CEO.
Company officials described the transition from the second to the third generation of Lee family leadership as a “celebratory occasion.”
“This transition has been many years in the making, and I have complete confidence that Marietta is going to be a terrific leader of The Lee Company,” Bill Lee said.
Marietta Lee joined the company in 2001. During her tenure, she has had multiple roles, ranging from facilities manager to executive vice president to chief operating officer.
Bill Lee has been president and CEO since 2010, and grew the company from under 800 workers to more than 1,100. He led the company through the COVID-19 pandemic and periods of growth, such as the acquisition of the TTP Ventus Ltd. company in 2022.
The Lee Company, founded in 1948, has more than 1.2 million square feet of manufacturing space in Westbrook and Essex.
The company manufactures miniature precision fluid control products for industries like aerospace and defense, automotive, diagnostics, industrial and off-highway, medical equipment, scientific instruments, motorsports, power generation, and oil and gas. It has provided products to NASA and its subcontractors for space missions.
