Lee Hoffman named chairman at Pullman & Comley

Attorney Lee D. Hoffman has been unanimously elected chairman of Pullman & Comley, succeeding James T. “Tim” Shearin in the role.

Shearin will continue as a member of the firm’s litigation department, and as vice president of the Connecticut Bar Association.

Pullman & Comley is the third largest law firm in Greater New Haven, according to New England Business Media’s research, with 91 attorneys and four offices in the Nutmeg State. Founded in 1919, it has offices in Bridgeport, Hartford, Waterbury and Westport, along with Springfield, Massachusetts; Wakefield, Rhode Island and White Plains, New York.

Hoffman joined the firm in July of 2003, and has been a member of the executive committee since 2013. Until recently, he was co-chair of the firm’s real estate, energy, environmental and land use department.

“He’s an excellent strategic thinker and understands that while our firm has a more than century of history, it’s critical to remain forward-facing, always adjusting to meet our clients' needs,” Shearin said of his successor. “Pullman will continue to grow and thrive under his leadership.”

In his practice, Hoffman focuses on energy projects, environmental regulatory requirements and brownfield redevelopment. He received the Hartford Business Journal's 40 Under Forty award in 2006 and was named the Connecticut Law Tribune’s Attorney of the Year in 2015.

Hoffman is the immediate past chair of the environmental section of the Connecticut Bar Association. In December 2021, he was appointed chairman of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association’s Energy & Environment Council.

As the firm’s chairman, he joins three other members on the executive committee, along with returning member Nancy A. D. Hancock, co-chair of Pullman’s business organizations and finance department, and newly appointed member Michael J. Andreana, co-chair of the firm’s public and private finance department, and Martin Hochstadt, the firm’s executive director.

Before joining the firm, Hoffman served as in-house counsel at The Hartford, where he defended The Hartford in declaratory judgment actions and oversaw defense attorneys in underlying environmental and toxic tort litigation.
