Legrand kicks off energy-saving 'marathon'

Just ahead of the Eversource Hartford Marathon scheduled for this weekend, Legrand North America -- which is based in West Hartford -- has fired the starting gun on a marathon of its own.

The electrical and digital building infrastructure provider’s “Energy Marathon 2.0,” is an internal competition to see which of its 22 participating locations can save the most energy by Oct. 28.

The length of the contest? A deliberately chosen 26.2 days.

The inaugural contest in 2014 had 18 participating locations that combined produced nearly 589,000 kilowatt hours of electricity savings worth nearly $47,000, according to Legrand, which said it expects to surpass those figures this year.

The ultimate goal, the company said, is to identify innovative practices that can be adopted permanently.
