Liberty Bank is moving to close a satellite loan office with an underused ATM on Park Street in Hartford.
The Middletown-hadquartered bank petitioned the state Department of Banking on March 18 for the go-ahead to close the roughly 1,300-square-foot branch at 2074 Park St., effective June 17.
Liberty began leasing the space in 2021 to provide a satellite office where loan officers could meet with local clients by appointment.
Liberty spokesman Adam J. Jearmel said the branch is being closed for several reasons, including its ATM being the “lowest-transacting” in Liberty’s network, with 84% fewer transactions per month compared to the bank’s ATM average. The lease on the Park Street location has expired and there are also several other Liberty locations in close proximity, Jearmel said.
The next closest Liberty location is in West Hartford center, followed by one on the Silas Deane Highway in Wethersfield. Liberty’s website says it has more than 55 locations.
Loan officers traveled to meet customers by appointment at the Park Street branch. Its closure will not translate into any staff reductions, the bank said.
