The highly-anticipated grand opening of Jordan’s Furniture in the former Lord & Taylor store at Westfarms is Friday.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the store entrance. It will open for retail sales at 12 p.m.

Along with guest speakers, there will be a check presentation to several area children’s hospitals.

Spanning 120,000 square feet of showroom space, the furniture and mattress retailer aims to be a “destination,” Jordan’s co-CEO Josh Tatelma said in an announcement.

Shoppers will be greeted by an 8-foot long LED tunnel as they enter the store from inside the mall.

The store has a 5,000-square-foot entertainment and restaurant space that will be home to Sally’s Apizza in the coming months.

The restaurant will feature an 80-foot high LED wall, composed of 300 screens displaying landscapes from around the world, and sporting events.

Jordan’s attractions, which include IMAX 3D theaters and indoor water shows at other locations, lead customers to spend more than twice as much time in the store than the industry average, according to the announcement.

The Westfarms location is Jordan’s Furntiure’s eighth in New England, and its second in Connecticut. Jordan’s also has a store in New Haven that features a four-level indoor ropes course.

Taunton, Massachusetts-based Jordan’s says it has 1,400 employees.

Westfarms, situated in West Hartford and Farmington, has a mix of 156 stores and restaurants, including anchors Nordstrom, Macy’s, JCPenney, in addition to Jordan’s.
