LiquidPiston highlights Bloomfield expansion after new government contracts

On the heels of a new U.S. Air Force development award worth up to $15 million, engine developer LiquidPiston has expanded its manufacturing footprint in Bloomfield.

LiquidPiston, which has been developing a super-efficient version of a diesel engine for some 20 years, announced last week it received a strategic funding award from the U.S. Department of the Air Force. It will use the money to help develop more efficient ground and airborne power systems for the Air Force.

Today, the company is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony to showcase an expansion of its Bloomfield headquarters, located at 1292 Blue Hills Ave. The facility is being outfitted with new equipment, including a wire electrical discharge machine, a 5-axis CNC milling center and a CNC lathe. The new space expands LiquidPiston’s Bloomfield footprint to 16,000 square feet.

The company has been growing for the past year on the heels of military contracts. In 2022, LiquidPiston received a $9 million development contract from the U.S. Army.
