Kathleen Nastri, an attorney at the law firm of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, was recently elected treasurer of the American Association for Justice (AAJ). In 2008, Nastri was elected to serve on the board of governors of AAJ as state governor. Each affiliated state trial lawyer organization is represented on the AAJ Board. Officers of AAJ serve a one-year term and are elected at the annual convention in July. At her Bridgeport-based law firm, Nastri focuses on personal injury and medical malpractice, and has brought to trial a number of precedent-setting cases. Nastri is a fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. She is also a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
For the second year in a row, Middlesex Community College (MCC) has been rated as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a new survey released by The Chronicle of Higher Education. MCC is the only community college in the state to receive this recognition. The results, released in The Chronicle's sixth annual report on the Academic Workplace, are based on a survey of more than 44,000 employees at 300 colleges and universities. The Chronicle surveyed a random sample of MCC employees who provided answers directly to the publication.
The Connecticut Bar Association recently unveiled its incoming officers for 2013-2014. Kimberly A. Knox, a partner with Horton Shields & Knox PC in Hartford, was named president. Other officers and roles include: Alexis H. Smith (secretary), deputy director of the New Haven Legal Assistance Association Inc.; Jeffrey F. Buebendorf (treasurer), attorney with the law firm of Brown Jacobson PC in Norwich; Mark A. Dubois (president-elect), an attorney with law firm Geraghty & Bonnano LLC in New London; Jonathan M. Shapiro (assistant secretary-treasurer), a partner with Shapiro Law Offices PC in Middletown; Barry C. Hawkins (immediate past president), a partner with Shipman & Goodwin LLP in Stamford; and William H. Clendenen, Jr. (vice president), founder and principal of Clendenen & Shea LLC in New Haven.
The Waterbury Regional Chamber recently awarded its 2013 Malcolm Baldrige Community Award to Gary B. O'Connor, a partner with Pullman & Comley LLC in Waterbury. Jack E. Traver, Jr., president of Traver IDC in Waterbury, was awarded the Chamber's 2013 Leadership Award, and Virginia Cookson-O'Rourke, owner of O'Rourke & Birch Florist in Waterbury, has won the Chamber's 2013 Volunteer of the Year Award. All 2013 winners will receive their awards during the 19th Annual Malcolm Baldrige Chamber Awards banquet on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
