CPA Megan Budd has joined Withum, a nationwide tax, accounting and business advisory firm with offices across the Northeast, where she’ll shift to helping clients in the cannabis sector full time.
While Withum doesn’t have any in-person offices in Connecticut — the company is headquartered in New Jersey and its closest office is in Providence — Budd will continue to work with new and growing cannabis companies in the state, she said. Budd joined the firm a little less than two weeks ago and said she plans to work remotely from the state and go to Withum’s Providence office when needed.
“Connecticut is still one of my primary focuses as this process gets ramped up for the state’s industry,” she told the Hartford Business Journal.
In addition to Connecticut, Budd said Withum has cannabis clients in Maine and Massachusetts. They work with all areas in the industry, and Budd said she’ll continue to work with retail dispensaries, cultivators and other startup businesses.
Budd previously worked at Marcum, a national accounting and advisory firm with four offices in the state.
“I went over here, primarily, so that I could work pretty much full time in the cannabis sector,” Budd said. “So I'm going to be doing all the same things that I was doing before and really be able to focus a lot more time on startups and early operators in the cannabis industry.”
