Kevin O’Connor, a former U.S. Attorney for the state of Connecticut, has been appointed as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Maryland-based defense contractor Lockheed Martin, the company said Wednesday.

The appointment takes effect on Jan. 13, the company’s board of directors said.

O'Connor will succeed Maryanne Lavan, who plans to retire but will serve as a strategic adviser through the first quarter of 2025 to help ensure a smooth transition.

O’Connor most recently served as senior vice president and chief legal officer for Carrier Corp.

"Kevin is a proven leader who brings insight, expertise, and a shared commitment to our 21st Century Security vision," said Jim Taiclet, chairman, president and CEO of Lockheed.

Before joining Carrier, O’Connor served as chief legal officer for Point72, a Connecticut–based asset management firm. Before that, he served as the vice president of Global Ethics & Compliance at United Technologies Corp., and was a partner at the law firm Bracewell LLP.

O'Connor has more than 25 years of experience in government and the private sector, including serving with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, as U.S. attorney for Connecticut, and as associate attorney general of the United States, the third-ranking official at the Department of Justice.

Lockheed Martin is a global defense technology company based in Bethesda, Maryland. It is the parent company of Stratford-based helicopter-maker Sikorsky.
