The Canadian hospitality company transforming a Portland quarry into a luxury Nordic spa has set a tentative opening date of fall 2025.
Pomeroy Lodging is constructing the spa at the former Brownstone Quarry, which dates back to the 1600s.
It will feature a 20,000-square-foot main bathhouse, and amenities that include a 6,000-square-foot bistro, cascading waterfall, steam room, cold-plunge pools, saunas, fire pits and saltwater relaxation pools.
This week, Pomeroy released new renderings of the project, which it says “aims to integrate the natural beauty and elements of Brownstone Quarry.”
Pomeroy paid $2.5 million for the quarry at 311 Brownstone Ave., which sits on a 6.3-acre site.
Pomeroy is a hospitality company with a diverse portfolio that includes hotels, resorts and Nordic spas, mostly in Canada.
The Portland project will be its third Nordic spa in North America, and its first standalone spa.
“Selecting the Brownstone Quarry as the location for our first stand-alone Nordic spa was a deliberate choice rooted in our pursuit of authenticity and serenity,” said Chris Puchalla, executive vice president of Pomeroy Lodging. “This historic site, steeped in centuries of natural beauty, perfectly aligns with our vision to offer guests a transformative hydrotherapy wellness experience that honors both tradition and innovation.”
