Macy’s stores in Connecticut will survive the latest round of store closures by the department store giant.
The New York-based retailer this week disclosed it will close 66 locations in 22 states during the first quarter of this year.
None of the locations will be in Connecticut. Nearby, Macy’s stores in Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey will close.
The closures come as Macy’s undergoes a turnaround strategy that aims “to return the company to sustainable, profitable sales growth,” the company said in a statement.
The strategy includes closing approximately 150 “underproductive stores” over a three-year period while investing in its 350 “go-forward Macy’s locations” through fiscal 2026, the company said.
Macy’s is an important anchor tenant in malls in Connecticut and across the country. The retailer currently lists six Connecticut locations in Danbury, Farmington, Manchester, Milford, Stamford and Trumbull, according to its website.
