Madison-based water treatment business Artech Water Systems has been acquired by Shelton’s Clearwater Industries.

Artech provides water softening, conditioning, and system maintenance services to residential, commercial, and industrial clients. It was co-founded in 1992 by John Hall, who is now the First Selectman of Westbrook, along with his wife Bonnie Hall.

Clearwater was itself acquired last year by California-based EAI Water, as part of a strategic expansion to the East Coast.

Clearwater specializes in boiler water, cooling towers, closed loops and glycol applications and has customers throughout the Northeast.

“This acquisition underscores our vision of building long-term partnerships with businesses that share our values,” said James Grieder, president of Clearwater Industries.

The terms of the deal were not released.
