A limited liability company tied to a major contracting company has paid $5 million for 58 acres of residentially zoned land in Plainville, but what it plans to do with it is not yet known.
Plainville Town Planner Mark DeVoe said he has received multiple calls from curious appraisers and residents following the sale of the large, undeveloped site off Unionville Avenue.
For now, DeVoe said, he doesn’t know what the new owner – Ferguson Contractors – intends to do with the two properties located 0 and 90 Unionville Ave.
There have been no land-use proposals submitted to Town Hall, DeVoe said.
The land is zoned for single-family homes, but it is also mentioned in the town’s Plan of Conservation and Development as a candidate for a planned design development district, DeVoe noted. That would allow greater latitude for land uses, if town zoning officials agree.
Attempts to reach a Ferguson representative were unsuccessful.
The land was sold earlier this month by Gardens LLC, which is controlled by Farmington-based Calco Construction & Development Co. The deed was signed by Calco President John Senese.
The property is bounded by residential neighborhoods on three sides, with industrial uses to the north. A rear corner of Ferguson Contractor’s Plainville headquarters property, along Northwest Drive, borders the northwest corner of the newly acquired property.
