Two former UConn alums have been named to executive roles at Springfield life insurance company MassMutual.
Mary Jane Fortin has joined MassMutual’s executive leadership team and will be appointed chief financial officer on Jan. 1, 2025, following the retirement of current CFO Betsy Ward, the life insurer announced Tuesday morning.
Meantime, Vy Ho has been appointed MassMutual’s chief actuary.
Fortin joins MassMutual from Thrivent Financial, where she served as president and chief commercial officer, leading the company’s insurance and wealth management businesses.
Prior to that, she served as president of Allstate Financial and held senior management positions at AIG, The Hartford and PwC.
Fortin earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut, and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Ho has been with MassMutual for the last four years, most recently holding the title of head of valuation and appointed actuary, the company said. He also spent almost 15 years at Prudential Financial, and had stints early in his career at Phoenix Life and Cigna.
Ho earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from UConn.
MassMutual had a sizable presence in Connecticut, before closing its Enfield campus a few years ago and moving about 1,500 employees there to Massachusetts.
The town of Enfield has been in talks to turn MassMutual’s former campus, which includes 430,000 square feet of mostly office space, into a multibuilding sports complex.
