March 18, 2019 Women in Business Awards 2019

Meet HBJ's 2019 Women in Business

Think Greater Hartford is short on strong women business leaders?

Think again.

This year's Women in Business awards received a record-breaking number of nominations — nearly 100 in all compared to around 60 in 2018.

The enthusiasm and energy around this award seems to pick up every year. That makes the job of our judges harder and harder. That's a good problem to have.

While Greater Hartford, Connecticut and the country as a whole still have a long way to go before we reach greater gender parity in the senior-executive ranks, it's refreshing to see so many women leaders identified in the marketplace.

In the pages that follow we recognize eight remarkable women who are making a significant difference within their organization and the community.

This year's winners come from diverse backgrounds and industries.

We've got a college president, multiple nonprofit CEOs, an accounting firm partner and a senior aerospace executive.

Our winners also include a pair of healthcare executives and a capital-markets expert who advises some of the world's largest publicly traded companies.

In each of the past 17 years, Hartford Business Journal has honored eight of the region's most talented women in leadership roles throughout central Connecticut. The winners are nominated by readers and chosen by a panel of independent judges. This year we'd like to thank Anne L. Elvgren (president of Elvgren Associates), Gail Lebert (director of partnership development, Klingberg Family Centers), and Sara-Beth Donovan (principal of Mintz + Hoke), for helping choose our winners.

The honorees demonstrate business savvy, confidence in themselves and their organizations, and a strong track record of professional success.

We hope you enjoy this issue and attend the Women in Business celebration to be held Monday, April 29, at the Hartford Hilton, 315 Trumbull St., from 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. The event will include a keynote address by Annie Lamont, Connecticut's First Lady and Co-Founder & Managing Partner of venture capital firm Oak HC/FT.

We'd also like to give a special thanks to our event presenting sponsor, Trinity Health of New England, and educational leadership sponsor, the UConn School of Business.
