Manon Cox, Protein Sciences

Manon Cox joined Protein Sciences in 1998 as director of business development, became chief operating officer in 2000 and became CEO in 2010.

Previously, she was with Gist-brocades, a Dutch company specializing in fermentation. She held various management positions at Gist-brocades, including in research and development, manufacturing and business development.

She serves on the scientific advisory boards of Pall BioPharmaceuticals and iCubed; the board of directors of United Way, Meriden & Wallingford; and the education committee of the Netherlands-America Foundation.

Cox holds a Doctorate from the University of Wageningen, received her MBA with distinction from the University of Nijenrode and the University of Rochester, N.Y., and holds a Doctorandus degree in molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry from the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands.

Marilyn L. Risi, Upper Albany Main Street Inc.

Marilyn L. Risi is the executive director of Upper Albany Main Street Inc., an economic development, community revitalization organization that is working to revitalize Hartford's Albany Avenue commercial corridor.

In her role, Risi forms strategic partnerships with public and private institutions, city agencies, community organizations, residents, merchants and other stakeholders.

Her accomplishments include helping with the successful launch of the Micro Business Incubator Program, a partnership between the University of Hartford, city of Hartford, MetroHartford Alliance and small business community.

Previously, Risi was the executive director for the North Amityville Taxpayers Association in Babylon, N.Y. as well as the community development director for the city of Millinoket, Maine.

Risi earned her bachelor's degree in business management from CW Post College, Long Island University and completed postgraduate work at Adelphi University in law.

Josh Hagstrom, Interscape Commercial Environments

Josh Hagstrom is co-founder of Hartford's Interscape Commercial Environments, a full-service contract furnishings dealer for the commercial, health care and educational markets.

In 1995, Hagstrom began in the industry as a furniture installer in his family's Vermont dealership. After graduating from the University of Vermont, he was a sales representative for a furniture dealership in Virginia Beach for several years before returning to New England.

During his 19 years in the industry, he's held various positions within furniture dealerships including marketing, sales, operations, finance, and project management.

In 2010, Interscape was presented with the “2010 Business Champion for Overall Achievements” award by The Hartford Business Journal and MetroHartford Alliance.
