Meriden-based special needs provider buys shuttered school in Cheshire for $1.15M

CoStar 725 Jarvis St., Cheshire

A Meriden-based provider of programs and support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities recently paid $1.15 million for a shuttered special needs school building in Cheshire.

Through a deed recorded Sept. 6, a limited liability company tied to Helping People Excel Inc., bought the 58-year-old, 19,491-square-foot school on 3 acres at 725 Jarvis St., from The Curtis Home Inc., also based in Meriden.

The Curtis Home had leased the property for 22 years to The Webb School – a provider of K-12 special education services operated by Hartford HealthCare, according to O,R&L Commercial, which brokered the sale. The Webb School shuttered its Cheshire facility last year and transferred students to a program in Avon.

Toby Brimberg, of O,R&L Commercial in Branford, represented the seller and procured the buyer.
