Meriden resident Crystal Klatt was sentenced to a year and day in prison for embezzling more than $400,000 from clients of a Hamden property management firm, the U.S. Attorney’s office announced Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall in New Haven handed down the sentence, which includes three years of supervised release. Hall also ordered Klatt to pay full restitution.
According to Klatt’s LinkedIn profile, she was employed as an assistant property manager at Margolis Management and Realty LLC in Hamden, which provides property management services to condominium associations.
Klatt had access to client bank accounts and diverted $446,859.82 from at least 14 clients to pay her personal credit card charges between approximately December 2014 and January 2021, according to court documents.
Klatt pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud on Dec. 21, 2021. She is required to report to prison on June 2.
The U.S. Secret Service, Hamden Police Department and Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force were involved in the investigation.
