A Columbia, Missouri-based cannabis company aims to build a retail building along Route 2 in East Hartford by the Glastonbury border.
According to an application submitted to the town’s Inland Wetlands and Environment Commission, Shangri-La CT Inc. aims to build a retail store at 32 Main St., in East Hartford. The applicant is Nevil Patel, CEO of the Columbia, Missouri-based cannabis retail chain.
The address Patel lists on the application ties back to a Shangri-La superstore in Columbia.
An attempt to reach a Shangri-La representative was not immediately successful.
Founded in Columbia, Missouri in 2021, Shangri-La started with a focus on medical cannabis, and has since expanded operations to Ohio, South Dakota, Illinois and Connecticut.
The company’s Connecticut branch is renovating a building in Norwalk for use as a retail outlet, which is anticipated to open in December, according to The Hour.
Waterbury’s Zoning Commission, in October, approved Shangri-La’s plans to open a 3,000-square-foot retail cannabis shop at 99 Brookside Road.
In East Hartford, the cannabis company’s wetlands application only describes the proposed structure as a “retail building.” There has been no application yet to the planning office with further detail.
The application targets a nearly nine-tenths-of-an-acre property at 32 Main St., which is located across from a large retail plaza hosting a Home Depot, TJ Maxx, PetSmart and ShopRite, among other retailers.
The property currently hosts a Cape-style house built in 1941.
